THE NEW MUSEUM: QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Why should I, or my company, support the Campaign?

The new museum will become the public's mirror to the Navy's commitment to advancing aviation science and technology.

The new Museum will be a teaching tool, exemplifying the courage and dedication of the scientists, engineers, and test pilots who have and continue to support the Navy's mission.

With your support, the new Museum will be there to teach the generations to come.

How is the construction of the new Museum to be funded?

The commitments from the partnership are as follows:

Navy(Patuxent River Naval Air Station) $2.0 million
St. Mary's County $2.0 million
State of Maryland $4.0 million
The Museum Association's Capital Campaign $3.0 million
__________
Total $11.0 million

How large will the new Museum be?

The new Museum will have some 31,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space (this is 4 times the space of the current building). A large portion of this additional space will be used for educational hands-on displays.

Why is the new Museum necessary?

The present Museum building will be destroyed to make way for road and other infrastructure improvements which have been approved and funded. Also the collections that the Museum is charged to preserve and interpret have grown too large to not build a new museum that can do justice to their importance to the history of naval )and general) aviation.

What will the new Museum offer?

How much does the Museum Association need to raise and in what time frame?

We need to raise at least $3.0 million over three years starting this year.

What makes the new Museum different from all of the other air Museums?

This Museum is and will be devoted to the science and technology of naval aviation from concept to fleet introduction and its unique place in the history of aviation. The new Museum will be the only expository center of yesterday's, today's and tomorrow's research, development, testing and evaluation of naval aircraft and their support systems.
