Singer Link Flight Trainer

Quick Facts

Quick Facts

  • The Link Trainer was developed by Edward Link in 1929 to teach aviators how to “fly blind” (no visibility out of the cockpit).

  • Through the late 1950s more than 500,00 US pilots learn how to fly and navigate in all conditions of degraded visibility.

  • A hood covered the pilot to force him to fly using only cockpit instruments.

  • The student’s flight path was plotted on a desktop chart. Many of the instructors were women.
